The Best Dressed Stars At The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Hosted by comedian Tiffany Haddish, the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards premiered on June 18, 2018. MTV handed out the coveted Golden Popcorn trophies two days earlier on Saturday, June 16 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California for standout performances from both the television and cinematic worlds. And although no best dressed awards were given, the red carpet certainly saw some major fashion wins.

Since the awards ceremony was pre-taped, fans got a sneak-peek at their favorite stars' red carpet fashions thanks to the power of the internet — and boy, oh boy, did these stars come to slay! From Zendaya's candy-inspired ensemble, to Tessa Thompson's dramatic Rosie Assoulin gown, to Betty Gilpin and Yara Shahidi's statement-making pantsuits, these television and movie stars proved they know how to dress for an occasion. Here's an inside look at some of the show's best looks, straight from the MTV Movie & TV Awards red carpet.

Cristin Milioti stuns in silver

Fresh off the heels of her completely terrifying (though, at times, quite funny) Black Mirror debut, Cristin Milioti stunned as she walked the red carpet and posed for photographers at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on June 16, 2018. The star, who you know from her memorable performances in How I Met Your Mother, Fargo, and The Wolf of Wall Street, was nominated for MTV's "Most Frightened Performance" award — and boy, was she ever deserving of the golden popcorn. Seriously, if you haven't watched "USS Callister" — the first episode of Black Mirror's fourth season — do yourself a favor and carve out some Netflix time. Milioti's performance is simply unforgettable — so it was only fitting that her red carpet look be equally as memorable.

The star stunned in a tea-length, long-sleeved metallic number, complete with a high neckline and bold, black stripes for days. Milioti topped off her futuristic look with neon green eyeliner and geometric drop earrings, looking every bit the part of a sci-fi badass.

Betty Gilpin looks killer in a chic pantsuit

If binge-watching the Netflix original series, GLOW, has taught me anything, it is this — Betty Gilpin could totally kick my butt if she wanted to. In the series (whose second season premieres Friday, June 29), Gilpin plays Debbie Eagan — a soap opera star turned stay-at-home mom who throws herself into the ring to deal with the pain of a cheating spouse and a best friend's betrayal. And while Gilpin's GLOW story line might be fictional, I'm pretty sure she's every bit as tough as her on-screen character — and the suit she wore to the MTV Movie & TV Awards only further proves my hypothesis.

Gilpin walked the red carpet at the Barker Hangar sporting a sultry two-piece suit straight out of every woman's pantsuit dreams. Designed by Zac Posen, the all-black, chic ensemble was tailored to absolute perfection, featuring a super sexy plunging neckline that added just the right amount of feminine flair.

Tiffany Haddish serves Cinderella vibes

All hail the queen, Tiffany Haddish!

2017 was the year of Haddish, no doubt about it. Though she's been in the comedy game for years, the hilarious star's breakout role came in the form of the 2017 hit movie, Girls Trip. Haddish received loads of critical acclaim for her role in the flick, and stole the hearts of millions of fans across the globe with her quick wit, contagious laugh, and down-to-earth personality. Haddish was undoubtedly one of the most beloved and talked-about stars of the past year, so it only made sense that MTV give her the reigns to one of the entertainment world's biggest nights.

As always, Haddish looked every bit the part of an actual queen as she floated down the red carpet. Stunning the crowd in a metallic, floor-length gown with a thigh-high slit and a princess-like tulle train, the host and nominee flashed her famous, thousand-watt grin as she posed for adoring fans and photographers.

Katherine Langford is delightfully dramatic in this black ensemble

There are definitely more than 13 reasons why Katherine Langford was one of the MTV Movie & TV Awards' best dressed stars. The smokey eye, the black veil bow, the stunning Giorgio Armani velvety gown — talk about a dramatic entrance!

Of course, a dramatic entrance is quite fitting for this gal. After all, she is the star of the hit Netflix drama, 13 Reasons Why. Nominated for "Best Performance in a Show" for her role as troubled teen Hannah Baker, Langford sported a small number 13 on her wrist in honor of the show that gave the star her breakout role. Langford took to Instagram to post a picture of the small, numeric detail, thanking both MTV and Giorgio Armani in her caption. "I'm so glad to have met so many of you and to have been on this crazy journey together," Langford wrote. "Here's to what lies ahead."

Madelaine Petsch is as pretty as a princess

Talk about a throwback! Madelaine Petsch's red carpet gown served up some serious Gwyneth Paltrow circa 1999 vibes.

Petsch's Prada gown is the millennial update to Paltrow's iconic Ralph Lauren pink ballgown which she wore to the 1999 Academy Awards to accept the Oscar for her performance in Shakespeare in Love. Petsch, who was nominated for the "Scene Stealer" Golden Popcorn, toned down the Cinderella vibes with her pink Prada gown — and turned up the sparkle. The form-fitting sequined gown with the pink tulle overlay perfectly complemented the star's fair skin tone and flowing red locks — bringing to mind Princess Ariel's pink ensemble at the end of the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid. This pretty-in-pink look could totally score Petsch a formal nomination to lead the charge in a live action Little Mermaid remake!

Unfortunately for Petsch, the MTV Movie & TV Awards weren't all fun and games. According to her Instagram, the Riverdale star had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction! Thankfully, Lili Reinhart was there to save the day.

Yara Shahidi is ready for business

Betty Gilpin wasn't the only star at the MTV Movie & TV Awards sporting a sultry suited look — Black-ish star Yara Shahidi was right there with her, looking equal parts glam and ready for business in a custom Tory Burch ensemble.

While Gilpin's Zac Posen pantsuit was a bit more form-fitting, Shahidi opted for a more comfortable wear — because who says you can't be totally comfy and totally stylish? The star — who's currently starring in a Black-ish spinoff centered around her character, Grown-ish — definitely looked all grown up as she walked the red carpet sporting a pale blue pantsuit ensemble featuring a belted waist, simple nude pumps, and breezy harem pants.

"Zoot suiting in vintage fabrics," the star captioned a photo of her red carpet look on Instagram, referencing the common menswear ensemble. "Thank you [Tory Burch] for this custom piece of the sky, [and MTV] for a great show."

Tessa Thompson makes quite the statement in red

Tessa Thompson is absolutely taking the world by storm. Since her breakout role the 2014 satirical hit, Dear White People, Thompson has gone on to star in some major flicks and popular TV shows, including Black Panther, Selma, Thor: Ragnarok, HBO's critically-acclaimed drama, Westworld, and the upcoming movie Sorry to Bother You. This gal is proving herself to be an unstoppable force, and the firey-red dress she sported for her appearance at the MTV Movie & TV Awards was certainly fitting for a girl whose career is on fire — in the best possible way!

Thompson's gorgeous, flowing ensemble was courtesy of designer Rosie Assoulin — the same Rosie Assoulin who designed Thompson's totally iconic gown for the 2017 Emmy Awards. The star's MTV Movie & TV Awards look was a far-cry from your typical ballgown, featuring a high-waisted skirt and a matching, flowing cape tied around her chest. Nonetheless, it was a bold look fitting for the breakout star.

Zendaya looks sugary sweet

Is there anything Zendaya can't do? From where I'm sitting, it sure doesn't seem that way. From starring in hit television shows, to making the switch to the big screen, to totally dominating in reality dancing competitions and sold-out concerts — this gal does it all, and she does it well. And if there's another thing Zendaya definitely knows how to do, it's serve up some serious lewks for the red carpet, honey.

Just take a look at this August Getty gown Zendaya sported as she walked the red carpet at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Though the Greatest Showman star wasn't nominated for an award, Zendaya absolutely stole the show in this simple-yet-elegant ensemble, featuring a brown gown with a high-neckline and mini-hoop skirt, matching pumps, and gigantic statement earrings. Zendaya was certainly feeling herself, too (as she well should). "Lookin' like a fine ass, unwrapped, caramel filled Hershey's Kiss," the star captioned a photo of her red carpet look on Instagram. Yes, girl!
