The Truth About Adam And Danielle Busby's Relationship

Adam and Danielle Busby first made national headlines when they welcomed the first female set of quintuplets in the United States. It was definitely big news for the couple and the world. The quints were born (happy and healthy) on April 8, 2015, and the country soon became invested in the story of the family. It didn't take long for the Busbys to become the focus of a new TLC reality show, OutDaughtered. The TV show follows the family as they navigate life with the quints, with older daughter Blayke, and with each other.

While the adorable Busby children have definitely stolen the hearts of viewers, the relationship between parents Adam and Danielle also became intriguing. How the two manage to wrangle six young children and still maintain the hots for one another makes for some seriously good television. Adam and Danielle Busby may be the parents to Blayke, Olivia, Ava, Hazel, Parker, and Riley, but, before that, they were just two people in love. Here's the truth about Adam and Danielle Busby's relationship.

Adam and Danielle Busby met at Target

Back when OutDaughtered stars Adam and Danielle Busby were just two young people with jobs, they ran into each other for the first time, according to Danielle's blog It's A Buzz World. As Danielle wrote, the two had both been working at everyone's favorite store Target for a while before Adam even talked to her. "After a few months of working almost side by side together at Target, Adam finally got the courage to say a few words to me," Danielle wrote on her blog. Obviously, Adam was nervous, as Danielle wrote that the first thing he said to her was, "Hey beautiful."

Danielle wasn't too impressed, and she even explained on her blog how she reacted to the encounter. "My thoughts at first were... 'oh wow! You never talk to me and now [you're] trying to hit on me,'" she wrote. "'Real smooth.'" Still, Adam eventually won Danielle over, and the two began eating lunch together during their breaks at Target.

Adam Busby bailed on their first date

After Adam and Danielle Busby spent some time getting to know each other, Adam finally asked Danielle out on a date. Or, according to Danielle's blog post, pleaded with her to go out with him. "Adam finally asked me out on a date...wait I mean begged me," she wrote. But it wasn't all sunshine and roses. The two had agreed to go out after work, and things apparently did not go according to plan. "Work day finally ends, I go home to get ready and the phone rings, it's Adam!" she explained. "He basically goes on to tell me he decided to hangout with his boys." Um, yikes! After all that time spent pining after Danielle, Adam just ditches her?

Obviously, Danielle wasn't too thrilled that Adam just bailed on their first date, and she admitted that she was super frustrated with him. "At this point I'm thinking, this guy...who does he think he is, ditching me," she wrote. "I'm done with him." Who could blame her? Of course, that isn't where OutDaughtered stars Adam and Danielle Busby's love story ended.

Adam Busby's parents came along on their first real date

Eventually, Adam Busby was able to ask Danielle out again, and he managed not to ditch her the second time around! However, there was some confusion involved with this date. As Danielle wrote on her blog, Adam picked her up but then went home to change. As Danielle was waiting for him in his parents' living room, his family showed up and started asking her questions. It was their first actual date, and she was meeting the parents already! As Danielle explained, "We finally are going on our first date...and Adam fails to tell me we are going out with his family for his sisters birthday dinner!" Awkward!

But the family date must have gone well because Adam and Danielle Busby ended up making things official that very evening. "For some strange reason this Adam guy asked me 'officially' to be his girlfriend later that night and wait for it....I actually said yes!" Danielle wrote. It might not have been the smoothest start to a relationship, but it's definitely one the OutDaughtered stars remember for years to come.

Adam and Danielle Busby got engaged on Christmas Eve

After a memorable first encounter and a family-filled first date, it would only make sense that Adam and Danielle Busby's engagement would also be pretty memorable. After they had been officially boyfriend and girlfriend for over two years, Adam popped the question, and, according to Danielle's blog, it was definitely a perfect proposal. "Two and [a] half years later he asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said a necklace, bracelet or a right hand ring...and this guy ends up buying me an engagement ring," Danielle wrote. "I had no idea! He proposed the day after my birthday, Christmas Eve," she continued, adding, "And I was in complete shock!"

Danielle explained to Country Living that the proposal definitely swept her off her feet. "He was so nervous and acting so strange and he was getting on my nerves because he was acting so weird. Little did I know, he was getting down on one knee at that moment," she told the magazine. Obviously, Danielle said yes, but that, of course, wasn't the end of the excitement in the early stages of their relationship.

A hurricane threw a wrench in Adam and Danielle Busby's wedding plans

Just over three whole years after they met, Adam and Danielle Busby tied the knot on July 22, 2006, according to Country Living. In an exclusive interview with the magazine, Danielle explained that their wedding day was far from smooth sailing. "Our wedding was kept small, but boy oh boy was it a challenging one to plan," Danielle told Country Living. "This was right after Hurricane Rita wiped out Lake Charles and pretty much every venue was damaged. But we were able to find a little chapel to get married in."

Just because things didn't go exactly according to plan, however, didn't mean Adam and Danielle weren't perfectly happy on their wedding day. "We were young and in love, so we didn't really care about where and what it all looked like," she shared. "We were just looking forward to the day we would officially commit in front of God to be together forever."

Adam and Danielle Busby left their hometown after getting married

As fans of OutDaughtered know, Adam and Danielle Busby currently live in Houston, Texas, with their six daughters, but that isn't where they are originally from. According to Danielle's It's A Buzz World blog, the happy couple actually left their hometown shortly after getting married. The pair were both originally from Lake Charles, La., but they wanted to start a new adventure together after they tied the knot.

On OutDaughtered, Adam, Danielle, Blayke, and the quints have journeyed home to Lake Charles to visit family, and it's clear that the small town is still close to both Adam and Danielle's hearts. Nevertheless, Texas is home for the family nowadays. Back in 2017, when Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, the family's home was not damaged, as Danielle told Country Living in an interview, but her mother's home was. Through the ups and downs of the Texas climate, the Busbys still seem perfectly at home in Texas. After all, everything is bigger in Texas, including families.

Adam and Danielle Busby initially struggled to get pregnant

Obviously, Adam and Danielle Busby first became nationally known when they became pregnant with (and later gave birth to) the only set of all-female quintuplets in the United States. But it was a long journey for Danielle to get pregnant, as the two struggled with infertility. "After well over a year of trying to conceive, we realized that we have a problem with infertility," Danielle wrote on the family's blog. "We would do whatever it took to get pregnant, so we started the long process of fertility treatments. We went over a year, trying different drugs and IUI procedures with no luck." She continued, "Not able to do IVF because we had depleted our savings after the many months of IUI procedures and fertility specialists visits we completely laid it at God's feet and said that we would try one last time."

On that last time, Adam and Danielle got pregnant with their oldest daughter, Blayke. Clearly, it was meant to be. Then, they went through the same procedure to have a second baby, but they soon discovered they were having more than just one kid. They now have six daughters and couldn't be happier!

Adam and Danielle Busby always try to check in with each other

With six young children at home, Adam and Danielle Busby might feel overwhelmed at times — it'd only make sense to have some stress in their situation! In an interview with TLC, Adam and Danielle explained how they make sure they take care of each other in the midst of so many responsibilities. "Because there's so much chaos," Danielle explained that it is super important for them to check in on each other. "To me, it's just, like, being mindful of, 'Hey, what was your day like?'" she said.

Truly, with all those kids, it can sometimes feel like Adam and Danielle barely get to talk to each other. As Adam said in the interview, "We could get through to Wednesday, and I felt like Danielle and I hadn't so much as given each other a head nod." But, as Danielle said, taking the time just to ask each other how their day was makes a huge difference. Clearly, these two know how to make it work, and, with six kids, that's no easy feat.

Adam and Danielle Busby are big on communication

As important as it is for Adam and Danielle Busby to simply check in on each other throughout the stressfulness of their lives, it's also important for them to have clear lines of communication. In fact, when speaking with TLC, Adam opened up about how crucial it is for him and Danielle to be able to just talk to one another. When discussing the importance of spending time together, Adam focused on talking things out with your partner, saying, "Open up that communication with your spouse, and just, you know, let them know how you feel. Don't just let it go."

Adam also gave some pretty spot-on relationship advice in the interview. "Talk to each other about how important that one-on-one time is," he said. Naturally, it's difficult for Adam and Danielle to get too much alone time these days, as Danielle noted that they actually schedule everything in their lives including their one-on-one time. That way, they can ensure that it actually happens. Keeping the spark alive after years of marriage and six kids can't be easy, but Adam and Danielle prove that it's all worthwhile.

This is how Adam and Danielle Busby make their finances work

Quality alone time together wasn't the only thing that Adam and Danielle Busby had to re-evaluate when they became parents to six girls. In a 2016 interview with People, the couple revealed how they manage their finances with half a dozen little ones to take care of. Of course, Danielle had to leave work when she was pregnant with the quints, and that definitely made things more difficult. "It's been a big drop because I used to work full-time and we had two incomes coming in," she explained. "We had to make the call when I was pregnant, to make [the kids] a priority, and it took me away from my job."

"We budget and we do what we can to make ends meet and make it work," Danielle told the magazine. She continued, "The biggest part of it all is that no matter what we come across, God has always provided, no matter what the situation," adding, "I feel like that's kind of his working in this story that we're living and sharing. He's protecting and guiding us and providing ... and that's how we've done it!"

Adam and Danielle Busby laughed when they found out they were having quints

Back before Adam and Danielle Busby knew they were having quintuplets, the two were just expecting one baby. Naturally, when they were told Danielle was carrying quints, it took a little bit of time for them to believe it was true. In an interview with People, the pair revealed what went down the moment they discovered they were having five babies. "When we found out that we were having quintuplets ... I mean, Adam just about passed out," Danielle said. "I just started laughing hysterically. I was like, 'We're just these normal people, how on earth is this happening to us?'"

When talking about the new levels of chaos in their lives that the addition of five babies brought, Adam told People that the couple had learned to simply laugh. "But what we've learned is that sometimes there's nothing you can do but look at each other and laugh about it," Adam told the magazine. "This is what it is now. This is our new normal." Hey, they do say that laughter is the best medicine!

Adam and Danielle Busby support each other through the ups and downs

Being a parent is already a pretty intense challenge, both physically and mentally. But being a parent to six children, five of whom are all the same young age, must be especially difficult. For Adam and Danielle Busby, this was something they had to learn in the spotlight and on national television. As Good Morning America reported, about 10 percent of new fathers deal with postpartum depression, and, on OutDaughtered, it was revealed that Adam was one of them.

On one episode of OutDaughtered, Adam shared his feelings of being diagnosed with postpartum depression with Danielle. "It was such a shock, looking it up and looking at symptoms." He told his wife, "Reading them line for line like, 'Oh, yep, I feel like that'."

It was definitely a difficult realization for the couple, as evidenced on their reality TV show, but Danielle was 100 percent there for her husband. "I want to help you, I don't want you to be like this and suffer," she told him on the episode. Parenting has a lot of ups and downs, but Adam and Danielle will clearly stick together through them all.

Adam and Danielle Busby celebrated their anniversary with a well-deserved vacation

Over the years, Adam and Danielle Busby have gone through some pretty intense times. From awkward first dates to infertility struggles, to having six daughters — it's been quite a journey for the couple. But they've stayed totally in love and blissed out on life, all this time later. In fact, the two went on a trip to celebrate their 13-year anniversary in July 2019.

"Another great getaway with my one and only," Adam wrote alongside a photo of the couple kissing in crystal-clear waters on Instagram. "Batteries are recharged and ready to get back to houston and hit the ground running. Happy 13 years Beautiful." Honestly, these two deserve a great vacation, so it's great that they got to enjoy some time together without their kids. OutDaughtered's Adam and Danielle Busby might be known for being parents to six daughters, but, before any of that, they were just young people who fell for one another at Target.
