The Truth About Noah Centineo And Lana Condor's Relationship

To All The Boy's I've Loved Before's Peter Kavinsky has put all of our past, and seemingly good, high school boyfriends to shame — and we're not even mad about it. Noah Centineo's portrayal of the character has also revolutionized the classic nice boy trope so common in rom-coms. Sure, Peter is still a jock, but he's not the brooding, "misunderstood," and often problematic character we're so used to watching on screen.  He's nice — actively nice. Is it really any wonder Lara Jean, a dreamy introvert and hopeless romantic, fell for him?

While we're tempted to call Peter and Lara Jean the cutest couple ever, that award might just have to go to Noah Centineo and Lana Condor. Jenny Han, the author of the book on which the movie is based, observed the stars' chemistry to be both "sparkling" and "really genuine," as she revealed in an interview with Vulture. So, are the two actually dating IRL? Here's the untold truth of the most adorable pair.

Good looks can be distracting

Based on Centineo and Condor's on-screen chemistry, you'd think they've known each other forever. In reality, they met in the audition room for TATBILB. "And I saw this beautiful tall man walk through the door," Condor explained their fateful first meeting to Vulture, "I immediately clocked that he clocked me, and he walked over to me." The 21-year-old actress was hoping he wouldn't come talk to her because she wanted to focus on her upcoming audition. But, naturally, Centineo did. In his "so chill and so cool" manner, he asked Condor if she wanted to run lines with him. Still, Condor turned him down — imagine! — because, as she put it, "didn't want to get distracted by this cute guy."

Afterwards, the actress discovered that she would be doing a chemistry read with the very guy she had blew off. Although she was worried that he was going to hate her (spoiler: he didn't), their read was a success. She told the publication that after just that first read, she "knew immediately he was gonna be cast." Adorbs.

Condor is super "giddy" around Centineo

Although Centineo and Condor were already in their twenties when they took the roles of the adorable high school couple, it wasn't hard to act a few years younger — at least for Condor. In an interview with Vulture, Condor said her cast members, who were more or less around the same age, were helpful in that department. "Being with Noah makes me feel like a little girl," she divulged, "So he actually really helped me be able to play younger." That's not all Condor said about her handsome costar. "I love him, I'm giddy around him, he makes me giggle and makes me really happy..." the star continued. That's right — she dropped the L bomb.

Condor ended her thought by saying Centineo makes her feel like a high schooler all over again. Okay, yeah, we get that. Still, those are some pretty strong words to say about a costar you may not even be dating.

She even admitted to having a crush on him

Condor is not shy about her feelings toward Centineo. Despite their awkward introduction, Condor admitted to MTV News that she thinks Centineo is "the greatest guy ever." And, even though she was pretty giddy around him, she didn't find being his costar difficult. She also revealed something that might just explain why she was so giddy around Centineo during filming. "I have a huge crush on him," she divulged, "I like to think he has a crush on me, but, you know, whatever." Get it, girl. Does Centineo feel the same?

While he hasn't actually used the word "crush" to describe his feelings for the actress, he did take to Instagram to share a photo of himself with his arms around Condor. Oh, and the caption? "She melts my heart," it reads. Fans filled the comments with heart-eyed emojis and compliments like "You too [sic] look so cute together" and "Undeniable chemistry." They're not wrong.

Centineo's feelings might be even stronger than Condor's

Condor definitely seems to have turned Centineo's heart to mush. In an Instagram story shared to Twitter, Centineo thanked Netflix for the opportunity to be a part of TATBILB, but gave a special shoutout to Condor. "Lana Condor," the actor begins, "you are the love of my life." Gasp!

Even when he's not professing his love for Condor, he routinely talks about her in a certain kind of way. "Lana Condor, goddamn," he began in an interview (via Twitter), "I don't know what we can say, but, like, she's so talented dramatically and comedically."

Centineo also goes on to describe his favorite part of the film and — as you could probably guess — it has to do with Condor. "In To All The Boys I've Loved Before, my favorite part of the film is that she has these little isms, these little facial expressions, throughout. And it's just her reactions, and, like, I could watch them all day," he admitted. Well, it sure sounds like he's got it bad for his costar.

Their "chemistry is genuine"

Jenny Han isn't the only one that thinks Centineo and Condor's chemistry is au naturel. We all do. As it turns out, there's a good reason for that: it is real. It's not just something the two conjured up on screen. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Condor said she's happy to have Centineo as "her partner" while navigating the success of the film.

She also admitted what fans have been thinking: that their "chemistry is genuine." She continued, saying, "Like, it has been since day one and I've never felt chemistry like this ever before with any other actor that I've worked with. I think we both know that it's special and I'm just happy that it's him that I'm going through all this with." Okay, that's it. Between his comments and hers, these two have to be in love in real life, right? Seriously, how could they not be?

Even the cuddles were real

Further blurring the lines between what's real and what isn't, there's an Easter egg of sorts in TATBILB that wasn't an act. For a moment in the film, a photo of Peter and Lara Jean cuddling can be seen on the lock-screen of Lara Jean's phone. Only, that wasn't a photo of Peter and Lara Jean at all, it was Centineo and Condor.

Director Susan Johnson spilled the beans to Entertainment Tonight, saying, "The two of them were in the green room on set at the high school location, in the area where we put the actors. They actually were sleeping on the couch in that room like that, so [one of the crew members] just stood over them and took that picture and it's so friggin' cute." While it is most certainly adorable, snuggling doesn't necessarily seem all that common for coworkers — unless, of course, they're dating. According to Centineo, though, it was common for "all" of the cast to cuddle up together. Though, he did initially tell Entertainment Tonight they were cuddling "Because we love each other! Duhhh!"

They connect on a deeper level

While both stars generally talk about each other in a lighthearted, Peter-and-Lara-Jean kind of way, Centineo did get a little more serious when speaking to Entertainment Tonight. He admitted that his chemistry with his costar can be attributed to both he and Condor being natural flirts and romantics, but there's more to the story.

"I would say it's a little bit to do with how amazing of an actress she is — that's a really big part of it — and it's really easy to react and listen to her when she's 'acting' because she's so natural," he explained. There's no denying that Condor is a great actress, but that kind of connection cannot just be put on — even Centineo recognizes that. "Another part of it is we just have similar perspectives on life," he added, "Our outlooks are similar and we just really like to talk and communicate. We got to know each other really well, so that made it really easy."

But, here's the thing

You're probably convinced at this point that Centineo and Condor are not only dating, but are head over heels in love with each other. Well, there's no way of proving — or disproving — the latter, but the former has officially been debunked by Condor herself. In an interview with Vulture, the actress was asked about her best friend. And that's when Condor made the shocking admission: "My best friend is my boyfriend." She added, saying, "It's a dream come true. We laugh all the time." Wait, she's talking about Centineo, isn't she? Nope. The star told Cosmopolitan that she and actor Anthony De La Torre have been happily dating since — wait for it — 2015.

While we can't hide the look of disappointment on our faces, it's worth mentioning that De La Torre is "really chill" with his girlfriend and Centineo's chemistry. His family, however, is not. After seeing the trailer for TATBILB, De La Torre's brother apparently called Condor and said, "Hey your trailer looks amazing, I love it so much but I also want to throw up because I don't want to see you with someone besides my brother."

There are other reasons

Lana Condor may be in a longterm relationship, but Noah Centineo says that's not the only reason they're not dating. While he did tell Entertainment Tonight that "she's in a relationship and super happy," he also said he and Condor are more like "brother and sister." Are you buying it? Their chemistry certainly says otherwise. Finally, Centineo also listed off their work as a reason why the two aren't really dating. It's best to keep things professional for the sake of their work, according to the actor.

Although Condor has been forthcoming about her relationship with De La Torre, she wouldn't confirm or deny her relationship with Centineo when Elle asked if they were dating. "Uhh, well, I'm not going to answer that!" she told the publication before adding, "I love Noah. I think he's the greatest guy in the world." With the potential to star in two more films together, we can't help but hold out hope for a real-life Peter and Lara Jean.
