In February 2022, it was reported that Aziz Ansari would make his directorial debut with the film "Being Mortal," starring Bill Murray. However, only a month later, it was announced that production on the film had been halted, leaving fans to wonder why.
Murray's on-screen persona is that of a beloved comedian, but his attitude on set is said to be quite the reverse, with actor Richard Dreyfuss once calling Murray a "drunken bully" after working with him in the 90's. Murray's "inappropriate behavior" on set appears to be the reason for the shutdown.
The New York Times obtained a copy of the letter informing the film's cast and crew of the production suspension: "After reviewing the circumstances, it has been decided that production cannot continue at this time." The letter did not mention Murray by name, but a film crew member confirmed it was about him.
Lucy Liu spoke out in 2021 about Murray's inappropriate behavior on the set of the 2000 film "Charlie's Angels," stating that Murray shouted insults at her during a scene. "Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going to just sit there and take it," she said.
