In early August 2023, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Instagram that he and his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, were splitting up.
Although the separation came without warning, there are rumors that have plagued the couple’s marriage for years — including whispers of extramarital affairs.
Rumors have swirled around Justin Trudeau and whether or not he has cheated. One such affair rumor has involved Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mélanie Joly.
The two have worked closely for years, and rumors of an affair started again after Justin reorganized his cabinet in July 2023 where he dismissed multiple ministers, but not Joly.
Sophie has also been vague when discussing the couple’s monogamy. When Global News reminded her of rumors, she scoffed "... I’m not saying it did or didn’t."
In 2020, Sophie attended a London charity event and tested positive for COVID-19 days later. At the same time, actor Idris Elba also shared that he contracted the virus.
Turns out the two were at the same event, and after Elba alluded to his contact with Sophie, rumors started flying that the two were having an affair.
