MTV to HGTV
In 2020, Chelsea Houska and Cole DeBoer left "Teen Mom 2" and launched three companies, including a home design business. After some success, Chelsea realized they could combine their skills from a decade-plus of reality television with home renovation and pitched the concept to HGTV.
Chelsea's Style
Chelsea has described her rustic style with unexpectedly edgy accents as "very South Dakota glam," saying, "I love cowhides and painting things black." Not every viewer of "Down Home Fab" has loved her style, as one Redditor referred to one renovation as "Beetlejuice glam."

For Cole, the notion that he would somehow make a living from being on television was something he could never have imagined. In an interview, Chelsea said that when they first saw themselves among other HGTV shows in a promo, they couldn't contain their excitement.
South Dakota
Chelsea and Cole are natives of South Dakota, so following their exit from "Teen Mom 2," the couple settled down in Cole’s hometown of Sioux Falls. Chelsea likes to pull inspiration from her surroundings, as reflected in her choice of skulls and antlers as home decor.
Ratings
The debut episode of "Down Home Fab" attracted 678,000 viewers, and the ratings for the rest of the season fluctuated significantly. Though the show is no rival to the network's No. 1 show, "Home Town," with over a million viewers per episode, it is considerably better than their ratings for "Teen Mom 2."
