The news of Gilbert Gottfried’s death hit the world hard. On April 12, 2022, his family announced he had passed away following a long illness, but they noted people shouldn’t be sad for too long, because Gottfried would like us to “keep laughing as loud as possible.”

Everyone has heard of the Chris Rock and Will Smith Oscars fiasco, and Gottfried had something to say himself. He posted on Twitter, “Which is the worst [sic] crime? Chris Rock being physically assaulted or Chris Rock telling a joke?,” following up with a picture of himself and Chris Rock smiling.

It makes sense that Gottfried weighed in on such a controversial moment, as he often mocked cancel culture. In 2021, he said, “It's as if the whole world is your wife. You apologize 24 hours a day, whether you did something wrong or not.”
