Hailey Bieber Faces Lawsuit Over Her Skincare Brand Week After Launch

After much anticipation, Hailey Bieber launched her new beauty brand, Rhode Beauty, on June 15th, 2022. The launch includes five different skincare products, and while consumer demand is high, it seems Bieber made a serious mistake that might derail her years of effort: she's using a brand name that's already trademarked.
The name of Bieber's brand, Rhode, is also the name of a clothing brand that Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers launched in 2013. The two founders allege that Bieber was aware of the already-existing brand, claiming that four years ago, the star asked to buy the brand name from them, but they declined — and now they're suing her for copyright infringement.
Khatau and Vickers' Instagram announcement reads, "Hailey could choose any brand for her skin-care line. We have only the brand name 'RHODE' that we've built.” Their clothing line is sold in Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus and has been worn by celebrities such as Beyoncé and Rihanna, so Bieber likely won't be able to ignore her error.
