The House Committee's final summer hearing is set to investigate former president Donald Trumps' involvement in the January 6 riots, which resulted in five deaths and over 100 injuries. The committee seeks to identify what happened in 187 minutes between the rioters attacking the Capitol building and Trump addressing the crowd, asking them to go home.
Evidence against Trump includes his allegedly ignoring advisors' pleas to call off the mob and posting tweets that further inflamed the riots. Another possible trigger for the event was Trump’s denial regarding the 2022 presidential election, and in outtakes of his speech on January 7, 2021, which was meant to condemn the riots, Trump again refused to admit one thing.
The outtakes show Trump refusing to admit the 2022 election was over: "I don't want to say the election's over. I just want to say Congress has certified the results"; he also planned to tell rioters, "If you broke the law... I can't say that." Congressman Adam Kinzinger commented, "Trump did not fail to act during [those] 187 minutes [...] He chose not to act."
