On May 2, 2022, Politico shared a leaked brief from the Supreme Court of the United States, regarding their potential decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. According to the leaked draft, the SCOTUS plans to overturn the 1973 court decision that largely protects the peoples' right to deal with pregnancies as they wish.
Once Politico's leak made its way across the internet, millions of people from politicians to celebrities weighed in on the highly debated topic. including President Joe Biden. Unlike others, the president pointed out that the draft has not been confirmed to be "genuine," but his words get more stern from there.
On May 3, 2022, President Biden released an official statement on his Twitter POTUS account. Biden said, "I believe that a woman's right to choose is fundamental, Roe has been the law of the land for almost 50 years, and basic fairness and the stability of our law demand that it not be overturned."
Per The Washington Post, Biden said it would be a "radical decision" if the court struck Roe down. He is committed to upholding reproductive rights, saying "we will need more pro-choice Senators and a pro-choice majority in the House to adopt legislation that codifies Roe, which I will work to pass and sign into law."
