Before she was engaged to Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle was married to Governor Gavin Newsom from December 2001 until January 2005. They divorced due to their careers.
The couple issued a statement citing, "Unfortunately, the demands of our respective careers have made it too difficult for us to continue as a married couple," per Newsweek.
Guilfoyle and Newsom had a long-distance relationship. She moved to New York in 2004 while Newsom was still mayor of San Francisco, which proved to be challenging for them.
"It’s no secret that they have been leading separate lives," a friend of the couple told San Francisco Gate. "How can you make a marriage work like that?"
The statement added, "Over the past ten years, we have developed a tremendous bond of love and respect for each other. That will never change. We will remain close friends."
However, they don't seem to talk anymore. Although there was no mention of politics at the time, Guilfoyle appears to have made an ideological switch over the years.
