Joanna Gaines of "Fixer Upper" isn't your average HGTV star; she's known for her very specific farmhouse-chic aesthetic, and has a very successful home decor line sold at Target. Joanna's signature style actually comes from humble roots, starting with her first venture into interior design and a life-changing vacation.
Joanna's style is best described as upscale-rustic, combining traditional farmhouse styles with industrial and vintage pieces, but when she started her first home accessory store in 2003, she was still "trying to figure out what my specific design style was," she wrote on her blog. A trip to New Mexico turned out to be the key.
While in New Mexico with Chip, Joanna found fascination in her surroundings, including "farmland and silos — the lush green fields combined with the industrial galvanized cylinders, and chippy white paint spoke to me." This inspiration helped her develop her signature aesthetic, and continues to influence her work today.
