How Did Steve 'Patch' Johnson Lose His Eye On Days Of Our Lives?

Since the day Stephen Nichols first appeared on "Days of Our Lives" way back in 1985, an eye patch has been a part of his Salem character. How Steve Johnson lost his eye in the first place is a dramatic tale that turned friends into enemies, but it wasn't the only time he lost it.
Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) and Steve met as young men who had just joined the Merchant Marines, and at one point, they encountered a gorgeous young woman named Britta Englund (Amy Stoch), with whom Bo fell madly in love. They all became the bestest of friends, but they didn't know she was sleeping with both of them.
One night, Bo caught Steve and Britta in bed together and a knife fight ensued, with Bo taking out Steve's eye with the knife. Eventually, Steve and Bo came to terms with what happened and lived as best friends once more, with Steve becoming Bo's brother-in-law when he married Kayla Brady.
Years later, Steve was given a glass eye for an undercover mission, but his eye socket and glass eye were both destroyed in a fight, and the patch returned. Steve then got a bionic eye to replace his missing eye, but after a fight with Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley) and her high-heeled shoe, the shoe became wedged in the bionic eye and was destroyed.
