After relinquishing his royal duties and moving to America with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry did not attend the memorial service for his grandfather, Prince Philip. Philip passed away a few months shy of his hundredth birthday on April 9, 2021, and Harry did not make the trip home for one reason.
Harry felt unsafe returning home after his security details were revoked; he's been fighting the British government to reinstate police protection for his family. Royal author Phil Dampier told the Daily Mail, “I think one day Harry might regret it,” and the security dispute is “an excuse” for bad blood.
Many fans are upset that Harry didn’t attend; one user wrote on Twitter, “I am disgusted that #Harry has allowed himself to be manipulated so much [...] he will have so many regrets.” While Harry did attend a statue unveiling in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana, many wonder if he will attend future family gatherings.
