The maid of honor is one member of the wedding party who tends to spend a lot, since this role requires more responsibilities than one might think.
Smaller, cheaper wedding ceremonies are trending right now, but Seattle Bride Magazine notes that gifts, decorations, and travel expenses for a bride's bridal shower and bachelorette party can cost each attendee around $800. Also, a 2021 study reports that bachelorette partygoers are willing to spend up to $1,000 on the bride's festivities.
Since the maid of honor is there to make sure things go off without a hitch, they may have to cover bridal shower and bachelorette party members who have no immediate funds. Glamour reports that after clothing (AKA dress) costs are factored in, maids of honor should expect to spend around $2,000 total to fulfill their special role.
