Born in Berkley, California, Ben Affleck said he “chanced into” acting with his debut in “The Dark End of the Street” in 1981, and after a few TV gigs, he realized he wanted to make a career out of it. Some of Affleck’s early work includes “ABC Afterschool Specials” and “Hands of a Stranger.”
Friendship with Damon
When he was 8, Affleck met his BFF, Matt Damon, and the two went to both school and auditions together. They got their big breaks (and Oscars for Best Screenplay) with 1997’s “Good Will Hunting,” which they co-wrote based on their experience growing up in Boston.

Affleck soon began snatching roles in big-budget blockbusters like “Armageddon,” which grossed $553 million worldwide, as well as “Changing Lanes” and “Bounce.” In 2001, he played the lead in Michael Bay’s “Pearl Harbor,” which grossed $449 million worldwide.
Squeezing into tights
In 2001, Affleck was cast in “Daredevil,” and he not only met his future wife, Jennifer Garner, on set, but also made a huge sum of $11.5 million. His training for “Daredevil” primed him for 2003’s “Paycheck,” which was his biggest payday up till the year 2015, racking up $15 million.
Poker face
In 2004, Affleck won $356,400 and a seat at the World Poker Tour Championship (where he knocked out 90 other players, including Tobey Maguire!). Allegedly, Affleck was banned from the Hard Rock Casino for counting cards at blackjack tables (where he previously won $800,000.)
