Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8, and mourners from all over the world share in the royal family's loss. Britain will be in a period of mourning for 10 days, but for those of us across the pond, we still have a chance to glimpse the historic outpour of support in the immediate aftermath of the queen's death.
On the date of the queen's passing, news outlets like The Sun and WPLG Local 10 live streamed the scene outside Buckingham Palace, in which mourners lined up along the gates of the palace in the pouring rain. As of September 9, the footage is still available to view on several news sites, so you can bear witness to the historic moment.
On the 8th, Royal Central tweeted a video of Buckingham Palace, writing, "People don't know what to do — they just want to be there — close to the symbolic heart of the monarchy." That day, barriers were also removed from Balmoral Castle, so that crowds could lay flowers alongside the Scottish residence where the queen spent her final hours.
