Parents
The love between Elvis and Priscilla is well-documented, and Lisa Marie Presley was born just nine months after the two wed. However, Lisa’s birth changed their relationship. Elvis apparently wasn’t attracted to a mother figure, and Priscilla’s pregnancy was hounded by questions over Elvis’ faithfulness.
Daddy’s Girl
As his only child, Elvis lavished attention on Lisa and indulged her every whim. Famously, the rock and roll star flew his daughter to Idaho for a mere half hour to play with snow for the first time. While he wasn’t the most hands-on dad, he made up for it with gifts, which Lisa said “was just him showing his love for me.”
Divorce
Elvis and Priscilla parted ways in October 1973, but the family remained close-knit. As Priscilla put it, “When we were together, you never knew we were divorced.” After the divorce, her parents decided to share custody, because as Priscilla said, “We really wanted [Elvis] to stay in [Lisa's] life."
Childhood
Lisa spent nine years with Elvis before he passed away. In the final years of his life, the legend continued his substance abuse, which not only worsened his health issues but also disturbed his daughter. Lisa could sense something was off, recalling, “His temper was getting worse, he was gaining weight, he was not happy.”
Elvis’ Death
When Elvis died in 1977, Lisa was one of the last people to see him alive. In the early hours of August 16, Lisa was awake when her father came home, later recalling, “He came in and kissed me good night after that. That was the last time I saw him alive.” Later, when he was found dead, she stayed with the body as long as she could.
