“It's always been my goal [...] to show diversity in the different things and characters that I could play," J.Lo told Billboard, and her acclaimed role in the 2020 film "Hustlers" proved the extent of her range. Many critics thought she would be a lock for an Oscar nomination, but that turned out to not be the case.
Though Lopez was nominated for a Screen Actors' Guild Award and a Golden Globe, she was not nominated for the coveted Best Supporting Actress Oscar. "You work hard your whole life and you wonder if anybody notices in a sense, on that level," she said. However, J.Lo says her work has a far greater purpose than winning awards.
"I do this not for an award. I do this to connect with people, make them feel things," Lopez said in the trailer for "Halftime," a documentary about the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show she performed with Shakira, which earned J. Lo her first Primetime Emmy nomination. "Halftime" premieres on Netflix on June 14.
