White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki met Gregory Mecher when they were both working for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2006. Mecher is a Democrat political aide who has worked for various politicians, including Joe Kennedy III.

Psaki and Mecher were traveling in the same political orbit, but it was difficult to get Psaki’s attention, because she was so intent on work. "When she's at work, she's very focused — it's like tunnel vision," he said, "So there was no way to accidentally get her attention."

He eventually did get her attention, though, and plucked up the courage to ask her on a date. "I actually got really nervous," Mecher said. "Which was really weird. I was 30 years old. I've asked a few girls out before. I've never been nervous about it in my life."

That first date may have been the hardest part, because they hit it off and became serious very quickly. They were married in May 2010 and are now the parents of two young children.
