When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family, they left behind plenty of privileges, including financial support. The couple eventually brokered multimillion-dollar deals to produce content under the umbrella of their organization, Archewel, including contracts with Spotify and Netflix, but things haven't been smooth-sailing.
Harry and Meghan have yet to produce much content for Netflix or Spotify, and Forbes warns that the couple needs to start earning money ASAP, since they’ve reportedly been racking up huge bills. Harry’s deal with start-up BetterUp, his new memoir, and the couple’s upcoming docuseries should bring in some funds, but all this drama has been a long time coming.
Netflix was furious when Harry gave a hot-topic interview to rival network NBC, and there's been speculation that the company will drop the Sussexes. As for the couple’s deal with Spotify, fans have waited months for Harry and Meghan to get into the groove with their podcast; the streaming service is reportedly bringing in producers to help the Sussexes along.
With Netflix losing subscribers and funds, royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti believes the status of Harry and Meghan's reality docuseries is tenuous, since fans already know pretty much everything about the couple via media coverage. Another source believes that the Sussexes didn’t understand what they were getting themselves into before signing the Netflix deal.
