In the wake of Queen Elizabeth's death, plenty of love, hate, and overall scrutiny is raining down on her family via social media. Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is one of the most loved and most hated royals, with some royalists poised to criticize her every move, while others — even those who aren't necessarily fans — jump to her defense.
Previously, Markle was pummeled online for holding her husband's hand, and now, she's being publicly examined for crying at the queen's funeral. Markle's supporters are pointing out how she was one of the few royals to show any emotion at all, with one fan tweeting, "Meghan being the only one who cried for the Queen.... Sums up everything really."
However, King Charles III and Prince Harry were also seen in tears following the queen's death, and another sect of social media is accusing Markle of being disingenuous. One user tweeted, "the people and family members who've literally known the Queen the longest (I have not seen) publicly shed 1 tear. MM knew the Queen for at most 4 years and she's crying?"
Many detractors use Markle's former profession as an actress to support their theories that she fakes her expressions, but others offer a more grounded take. One Twitter user wrote, "People who never even met [the queen] all over the world shed a tear so why would someone who is her daughter in law shedding a tear be called acting? People are truly weird."
