On Saturday, April 30th, 2022, the world was shocked to learn that country singer Naomi Judd had died at the age of 76. Wynonna and Ashley Judd were the ones to break the news of their mother's death, leaving fans with a lot of unanswered questions.
Wynonna and Ashley shared the news of her passing, saying, "Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory." They did not share more about the cause of death.
Naomi Judd's death sparked a flurry of speculation on Twitter, with many fans presuming she committed suicide, while others pointed out that she had been battling hepatitis C for decades. Other Twitter users speculated that the singer had Alzheimer's or dementia, however her recent performance on the CMT Awards with her daughter Wynonna did not suggest this.
The timing of Naomi Judd's death is particularly puzzling, given that The Judds were scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Meanwhile, their stadium tour, which was to be their final tour after a decade-long break, was due to begin this fall.
