Despite Queen Elizabeth II's persistent health issues, her death was still so sudden that some of her relatives didn't make it to Balmoral Castle in time to say their final goodbyes. Thankfully, the queen's children King Charles and Princess Anne were present at her side, and Anne was photographed in Scotland looking ashen and teary-eyed following her mother's death.
British TV personality and proud royalist Piers Morgan tweeted about Princess Anne having "grief etched on her face" during the six-hour trip from Balmoral to Edinburgh. Morgan added, "Anne never gets enough credit for her own selfless devotion to duty & decorum. Like the late Queen, she represents the very best of royalty."
Anne was incredibly close to her mother, and royal expert Mark Bowden explains that Anne accompanied the queen's body because "As the only daughter of the queen, Princess Anne represents to the nation all daughters who lose a mother. This represents a moment for every woman to think of their mother, departed or alive".
