Prince William's disapproval of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship has been a point of contention within the royal family, as detailed in various sources.
This discord began when William expressed concern about the speed of Harry and Meghan's romance, advising Harry to "take as much time as you need to get to know this girl."
Harry perceived his older brother's advice, especially his reference to Meghan as "this girl," as snobbish and dismissive, which soured their relationship further.
The situation worsened as William and Kate Middleton showed reservations about Meghan joining the royal family, with Harry feeling their attitudes were influenced by stereotypes.
William knew Meghan would be under media scrutiny, so he wanted her to properly establish herself in the UK by forming meaningful connections before permanently moving there.
Kate's advice came from
her own experience. Since Meghan was an actress and would be the first woman of color to join the royal family, they felt the pressure
would be enormous.
Harry writes in his biography "Spare" that the rift between the brothers reached a peak with a physical altercation when William called
Meghan "rude," "difficult,"
and "abrasive."
This led to a heated argument that culminated in William pushing Harry to the floor. However, William later apologized and asked
Harry to keep the
fight between them.
Harry's tell-all memoir might've been the final nail in the coffin for their relationship, as William has accepted that "he's lost his little brother and quite possibly for life."
