Marilyn Monroe met Queen Elizabeth II at a screening of the film "The Battle of the River Plate." While Monroe executed her curtsy and engaged in a brief interaction with the queen, the monarch quite hilariously noted how she could tell Monroe was "so nervous" because "she had licked all her lipstick off."
Madame de Gaulle
Queen Elizabeth came to the aid of France's first lady, Yvonne de Gaulle when someone asked her what she was most looking forward to when she retired and the first lady had a slip of tongue. The queen humorously broke the awkward silence with "Ah, happiness" as a witty response to the question.
Egg Pelting
During the queen's visit to New Zealand in 1986 with her husband, two women posing as crowd control officers hurled eggs at them. While the country's Prime Minister was aghast at the incident, the queen made a joke about it a couple of days later and said, "I should say that I myself prefer my New Zealand eggs for breakfast."
Queen's Mimicry
Queen Elizabeth entertained her friends and family with her outstanding ability to replicate virtually any accent and was said to have delivered convincing impressions of numerous American presidents. "The Queen has a wicked sense of humour and is a great mimic," the queen’s hairdresser, Angela Kelly once said in an interview.
Letters From Corgis
Queen Elizabeth loved her corgis like the members of her family and reportedly took to writing letters on the behalf of her corgis to other dogs. "They are wickedly funny," said broadcaster Alexander Armstrong recalling the queen’s letter exchange — on behalf of their dogs — with one of her equerries, Sir Blair Stewart-Wilson.
