Meeting
Presley and Cage dated for two years before marrying in 2002, but their marriage lasted only 4 months until they split. The two first met in 2000, at a birthday party, and Cage recalled being “thunderstruck” by Presley. He remembered Presley's “big, beautiful, soulful eyes that look[ed] like they [had] a sad story to tell.”
Relationships
When Presley and Cage first met, they were both in other relationships. At the time, Cage had been married to actor Patricia Arquette since 1995, and although the two separated in 1996, it wasn’t until Cage met Presley that he filed for divorce. On the other hand, Presley was engaged to singer-songwriter John Oszajca.
Arguments
Presley and Cage were only married for four months before their marriage came to an end. After finalizing the divorce, Presley admitted that the marriage wasn’t a good idea, saying, “We shouldn’t have been married in the first place," and during their relationship, the two were known for their volatile arguments.
Divorce
Although the two didn’t officially divorce until 2004, the pair called it quits in 2002. Presley said the marriage “was one of those things where you’re marrying hoping that you’re going to either stabilize it or it’s going to, you know, accentuate all that was going on prior.” Luckily, the two stayed friends after the divorce.
Post-Divorce
After the split, the pair had only nice things to say about each other. Presley admitted to being fond of Cage, while Cage expressed regret about the end of their relationship, saying, “Sometimes I wish we couldn’t have rushed the marriage and sometimes I regret rushing the divorce.”
Death
On January 12, 2023, Lisa Marie Presley passed away after a cardiac arrest. Cage shared that Presley’s passing was “devastating” and that he hoped she had found peace with her son, Benjamin, who died in 2020. Cage said, “Lisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met. She lit up every room, and I am heartbroken.”
