You might recognize Jack Black as an actor and comedian from your favorite movies and while his career is great, it turns out so was his mom’s. Judith Love Cohen was an extraordinary woman; not only was she a mom of four, but she was an aerospace engineer, a ballet dancer, and an author.
After a Reddit post went viral, Snopes outlet confirmed Cohen worked for NASA as an engineer and helped invent the Abort-Guidance System, which was later used to guide Apollo 13 back to Earth during its 1970 ill-fated mission. She also went into labor with Jack the same day she was working on an important problem and solved it while she was at the hospital.
While studying math and science, Cohen was dancing for New York’s Metropolitan Opera Ballet; as if she wasn’t impressive enough, she was the eighth woman ever accepted into the University of Southern California’s School of Engineering. At the end of her career, she worked on the Hubble Space Telescope and wrote a series of children’s books with her husband.
