Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, is famously progressive and outspoken. She shares unfiltered opinions on her Twitter that have made her quite popular amongst Gen Z, but "AOC" proved her dedication when she was arrested during a protest in support of abortion rights.
Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, "People will die because of this decision. And we will never stop until abortion rights are restored in the United States of America." On July 19, she took part in a pro-choice protest at the Supreme Court; U.S. Capitol police eventually arrested Ocasio-Cortez and 34 others.
Police claim that the 35 individuals were arrested not for protesting, but for "Crowding, Obstructing or Incommoding" street traffic. Ocasio-Cortez was escorted off the scene with her hands behind her back, but no handcuffs. Furthermore, 17 members of Congress were arrested at the protest, including Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley.
