The Real Reason Fixer Upper Homes Are So Hard To Sell

Chip and Joanna Gaines seem to have the Midas touch when it comes to renovating homes. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes the fortune of a king to afford those homes after they finish restoring them.
The homes the Gaineses renovate are truly showstoppers, so why are they so hard to sell? The short answer is because they are so expensive, as the asking prices of the refurbished houses are often far above the median price of other homes in the area.
According to Waco real estate agent Kristin Clements, the local "honey spot is around that $150,000 to $250,000 range — that's where we'll get people buying right away." However, many of the “Fixer Upper” homes exceed that, thanks to the extensive updates and renovations, making them very difficult to sell.
In fact, there is one home from Season 2 that is currently on the Waco real estate market for $679,000. While Chip and Joanna Gaines certainly improve the market value of the homes they renovate, it’s quite possible that they do too good of a job.
