Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) first appeared in Season 5 of "Chicago Med" as a heroin addict that Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) rehabilitated, but it was subsequently revealed that she was also a doctor at the show's fictional hospital. Instead of reporting Hannah's addiction to the hospital, Will began dating her until she left the show, leaving viewers wondering where she went.
Hannah unintentionally overdosed after a major dispute with Will at the start of Season 6, leading her to re-evaluate her medical work and her life‌. This caused Hannah to leave the show and move to Los Angeles in order to work on herself and overcome her heroin addiction.
The show's producers didn't give a clear reason for the character's departure, but many fans could assume it was simply because her story arc had finished. In a shocking twist, Hannah reappeared on "Chicago Med" in episode 16 of Season 7, revealing that the character will return as a series regular.
