Nichelle Nichols, who played communications officer Lt. Nyota Uhura on the "Star Trek" original series, broke an immense amount of ground in her starring role, including sharing U.S. television's first interracial kiss with William Shatner, AKA Captain James T. Kirk. Besides her most iconic role, Nichols also had a short stint on a certain soap opera.
The beloved actress guest starred on two episodes of "The Young and the Restless," taking on the role of Lucinda Winters, the estranged mother of Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John), whom he finally makes peace with while she’s on her deathbed. In 2021, Nichols decided to give her fans one last treat before her retirement.
Nichelle Nichols played an older version of the character Ominara in the "Star Trek" origin story "Renegades: Ominara," while Loren Lott, who played Ana Hamilton on "Y&R," played the younger version of the character. This was Nichols' last sci-fi project before her death in 2022, which was mourned by countless fans and co-stars.
