She began acting at 3
Born in New York City, Abigail Breslin got her first acting gig in a Toys 'R' Us commercial, followed by her first film role in the 2002 sci-fi drama “Signs,” alongside Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix. She also landed a role alongside her brother, Spencer, in “Raising Helen.”
Little Miss Sunshine
In 2006, Breslin got her big break in "Little Miss Sunshine," where she played a child beauty pageant contestant who travels across the country with her dysfunctional family. Director Valerie Faris praised Breslin’s performance and the film was extremely successful, earning Breslin an Oscar nomination at the age of 10.
Mainstream success
With Oscar and SAG Award nominations under her belt, Breslin landed lead roles in films including "The Ultimate Gift,” "Definitely, Maybe,” and “My Sister’s Keeper." Breslin enjoyed how her character in the latter film was “willing to go to any lengths to help her [sister].”
She began singing
Breslin sang multiple songs in the 2010 film "Janie Jones,", and after established herself as a capable singer, she released two singles, "Christmas in New York" and "You Suck." The latter song was a rock breakup anthem aimed at Breslin's ex-boyfriend, and received unfavorable reviews.
She is a survivor
In 2017, Breslin revealed that she was sexually assaulted by an ex-boyfriend and diagnosed with PTSD. Describing herself as in “complete shock and total denial,” she opened up about why she didn’t report the incident, and encouraged fans to donate to RAINN, a sexual assault hotline.
