Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and their respective legal teams, have been battling it out in court since April 11, 2022, but on May 3, 2022 the trial took a turn when Judge Penney Azcarate made a major decision in the case. The choice could possibly change the entire course of the case.
Depp is suing Heard for $50 million in defamation for a December 2018 Washington Post piece in which she stated that she is "a public figure representing domestic abuse." Heard's legal team filed a motion to dismiss a few of Depp's charges, but the judge has denied the motion to dismiss the case, meaning that the two legal teams will continue to spar in court.
As a result, the saga will continue, with the lawyers going back and forth, and the rest of the world watching. Depp appears to be winning in public opinion, but the judge has the most important view, and it appears that she is giving him a chance to fight back.
