Many people will know Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff as Rachel Berry and Jesse St. James on "Glee." However, Michele and Groff's friendship began when they co-starred in the Broadway show "Spring Awakening," and they have been inseparable ever since.
After a 16-year-long friendship, Michele and Groff admit they'd be lost without one another, but Michele is confident they would have always crossed paths. "It just so happened that we met to do [Spring Awakening], but I feel like we would've met some way or another in life because we were meant to be in each other's lives," Michele said.
When they initially met, Michele admitted to having a major crush on Groff, who had yet to come out as gay‌. When Michele confronted Groff about why he didn't love her, she says she "saw this look in his eyes [and] realized in that moment," adding, “I think he felt safe with me because he knew that I knew and that we could be best friends, and our relationship just grew and grew.”
Groff said in 2014 that he and Michele had shared "some pretty unique experiences" since meeting, one of which was when Michele showed Groff her vagina because he'd never seen one before. "I was like, 'Sure.' And I took a desk lamp [...] and showed him. That's how close we are," Michele said, noting that Groff hadn't done the same for her.
When Michele's boyfriend and "Glee" co-star Cory Monteith passed away in 2013, Groff reportedly stopped production on a film he was working on to support her. Michele expanded upon Groff's support further. "He picked me up during the hardest moments of my life, through grief and loss, and has been there to celebrate and enjoy the beautiful times too."
