"Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded," Diana, Princess of Wales, famously told Martin Bashir during a 1995 interview. Diana was referring to the relationship between herself, Prince Charles, and Camilla Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Charles' current wife — and at one time, his mistress.
Diana's relationship with Camilla changed over time; during the earlier, happier years of Diana's marriage, Camilla was just one acquaintance in the young royal’s new social circle. Diana felt Camilla’s relationship with her husband was innocent enough, until Camilla and Charles began their infamous affair.
Camilla and Charles' dalliance led to his and Diana’s extraordinary divorce. In a 1989 confrontation, Camilla allegedly asked Diana, "All the men in the world fall in love with you, and you've got two beautiful children, what more do you want?", to which Diana replied, "I want my husband." Unfortunately, we all know how Diana's story ended.
