Fans know that Trisha Yearwood has been happily married to fellow country music star Garth Brooks for 15 years. Yearwood told Us Weekly, "We're both very independent people who run our own ships. And sometimes, [...] it can be difficult,” although she added, "We really are a couple who got married to be together."
Yearwood’s first marriage was to music producer Christopher Latham, who she married in 1986 when she was studying business administration at Belmont University. It ended in 1991, likely because of her budding career, as she has said, "My career has always been more important than my personal life.”
Yearwood went on to marry bassist Robert Reynolds in 1994, but their union dissolved in 1999. She hasn't spoken too much about her marriage to Reynolds, but about their divorce, Yearwood said, “[It] was difficult. It's a serious decision involving someone you're tied to emotionally, so it's hard to move on.”
Brooks and Yearwood first met in 1987 while recording a song together, but both were married at the time. That's not to say that sparks didn't fly, but things didn't get romantic until around 2002.
Yearwood said she knew Brooks was the one "probably the minute I met him, even though I didn't know it at the time. I just think we're meant to be.” The now-inseparable lovers stayed friends for more than a decade, and Yearwood says, "Because we were each married before and we've been friends a long time, [...] he knows everything about me."
