Céline Dion's father died of bone cancer in 2003 at age 80, and her mother died of Alzheimer's in 2020 at 92. She honored them on stage on the days of their deaths.
Despite a 26-year age gap, Dion married René Angélil in 1994. Angélil, who died of throat cancer complications in 2016, was diagnosed in 1998 and had a relapse in 2013.
Two days after Angélil died, Dion’s older brother Daniel died of cancer at 59. Daniel, a father of two girls, had been diagnosed with brain, throat, and tongue cancer.
Karine, Dion’s sister Liette’s daughter who had cystic fibrosis, died at 16 in 1993. In 2016, Liette’s husband died of cancer that spread to his lungs, brain, and bones.
In 2012, Dion was diagnosed with weak vocal cords caused by a viral infection. In 2018, she had a Patulous Eustachian tube in her middle ear that led to vocal issues.
