What Are The Chances Of Having Multiple Babies If You Use IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization, known as IVF, is a fertilization method in which an egg is fertilized outside the body and then implanted into the uterus. IVF is an effective way to get pregnant for those who struggle with infertility, disorders that hinder fertilization, or age barriers, but a significant side effect is the possibility of conceiving multiple babies.
The chance of conceiving multiple children through IVF is not random. To conceive multiple babies during the process, a transfer of more than one embryo is required; this is a popular option to cut down on the cost of IVF and the overall difficulty of the procedure, but comes with more risks than just having twins (or more).
Conceiving multiples during IVF can affect pregnancy and delivery; pregnancy risks may involve the mother contracting anemia and high blood pressure, or even miscarrying. Risks during delivery may include preterm labor and birth, birth defects, and a higher chance of requiring a C-section. Always consult a trusted doctor about any of these concerns.
While it's important to be aware of the risks associated with IVF, the procedure is generally very safe if done correctly by a trusted medical professional. Most women who undergo IVF go on to have a healthy pregnancy, birth, and baby, but you and any partners you have should be prepared for all possible outcomes, including multiple kids.
