It's a sensitive topic that varies from one culture to another, but today, weight often plays a role in determining a man's attractiveness, not to mention his health. Generally, a healthy weight depends on a person's Body Mass Index (BMI), which takes both height and weight into consideration, with a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 considered the healthiest.
Over the past 20 years, men’s average height has remained somewhat consistent, but their weights and BMIs have increased. World Data released stats on men from 127 countries, and the average weight for men worldwide is currently 171.9 pounds; men from the U.S. had a dramatic increase from the 1960s, going from 166.3 pounds to 197.9 pounds.
Several factors can influence weight, including race, diet, and levels of physical activity. Weighing more isn't always unhealthy, as an athletic person with muscles may weigh more than a non-athletic person, but the athlete is in better physical health. BMI in general does not consider the difference between pounds of fat and pounds of muscle.
