He was Bullied
Jonathan Bennett was a theater kid from small-town Ohio and used acting as his safe space. On World Theater Day, the actor shared on Instagram how he was bullied in high school by being pushed into lockers and being called derogatory terms in the hallways, which led him to develop stomach ulcers and dark thoughts.
Outed by a Celeb
Bennett was outed as gay in 2014 by “Dancing with the Stars” judge Julianne Hough when she told Cosmopolitan, “He's gay! So, [...] that's not going to work,” after he DM’d her complimenting her butt. He would publicly come out as gay in 2017 according to Pride, and is married to fellow actor Jaymes Vaughan.
Spin Instructor
While the actor is known for just that — acting, he had a side job in 2013 as a spin instructor at L.A. Flywheel. According to HuffPost, the spin cycling company posted on its website that Bennett decided to become an indoor spin cycle instructor “to pay it forward and help others.”
Cancer Ally
In a video posted to Instagram, Bennet said, “October is breast cancer awareness month, so I'm showing you what it's like to get a mammogram.” The actor revealed that cancer runs in his and his husband’s families, and shared details of the fundraiser he is involved with for donations to the Ellie Fund.
Wedding Magazine
In 2021, Bennett and his then-fiancé made history as the first gay couple to be featured on the cover of The Knot. Out Traveler asked about what it meant, and Bennett said, “For us to see two men in love on the cover of a wedding magazine when we were younger and struggling would have offered so much hope."
