It's been over a year since Donald Trump left the White House, but the former president’s name has remained in the headlines due to an ongoing investigation of his role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots, as well as allegations of election fraud and more. On August 8, 2022, the FBI raided Trump's Mar-a-Lago, Florida home in search of classified documents.
The FBI searched for presidential documents that Trump may have taken from the White House, even after Trump returned 15 boxes of documents kept during his presidency to the National Archives. Trump was not present in Florida for the raid, and it appears that both he and President Biden were not aware of the search until it occurred.
"These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege [...] this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate," Trump stated on social media. He suggested that the search was "an attack by Radical Left Democrats" to stop him from running for president again in 2024.
