Michelle supports IVF
While opening up about her fertility journey, Michelle Obama spoke about the importance of women sharing their pregnancy stories. She spoke about her own IVF experience in order to conceive her and Barack's, daughters Malia and Sasha, after she suffered a miscarriage.
First date with Barack
The Obamas' first date consisted of lunch at the Art Institute of Chicago followed by a little walk; Barack later took his future wife to watch Spike Lee's movie "Do the Right Thing." Michelle says, "He was trying to show me his sophisticated side by selecting an independent filmmaker."
Michelle’s role model
Rather than idolizing famous figures, Michelle Obama found her inspiration in tangible role models. These included Michelle's mother, father, and teachers, as they had a far more profound impact on the former first lady's day-to-day life than any celebrity.
Michelle’s initiatives
Michelle has been supporting youth initiatives for decades. She found her time working in a law firm "dismal" and instead went on to create Public Allies Chicago, a program that helps young people in their journey toward public service; Michell's focus has been on youth reform ever since.
Michelle got candid
Michelle once shared more personal — and unflattering — details about Barack Obama to show everyone that he was as imperfect as anyone else. According to her, a president should not be put on a pedestal instead, there should be a sense of shared responsibility between the president and the citizens.
