In 2017, Steve Harvey and Donald Trump came together for a meeting at Trump Tower in New York City to discuss turning inner-city schools into vision centers for STEM education.
While the meeting was a notable effort that produced results, Harvey still faced his fair share of backlash for meeting with the former president.
"The backlash ... was so vicious that it really threw me," Harvey told The Hollywood Reporter. "I was being called names that I've never been called," he confessed.
Disapproval of Harvey's meeting with Trump ran rampant on social media, and the comedian even became a subject of mockery on "Saturday Night Live."
Harvey isn't the first Black person to suffer a professional backlash from a brief adjacency with Trump. Others include Chrisette Michele, who performed at Trump's inaugural ball.
