What It Means If You Dream About Your Doctor

You drift off to sleep and the next thing you know, you're walking in a desert, trying to get away from a blurry figure that seems intent on reaching you. After what feels like ages, the landscape changes, and now you're sitting in your psychiatrist's office, strapped to a chair. You open your mouth to speak but no words come out.

Dreams often leave us feeling pensive when we wake up, our sleepy brains desperately trying to make sense of seemingly incoherent images. But the study of dreams has taken researchers to extreme findings, according to Mind Body Green. Psychologist and dream expert Rubin Naiman, Ph.D. explained that modern science makes a connection between REM sleep, "maintenance tasks," and dreams.

Further, "The other end is that dreaming is more substantial than waking. And we see this in 'dream cultures,' such as the indigenous people of Australia, who believe dreaming is intrinsic to our spiritual existence." Whatever your understanding of dreams, it's likely you've woken up trying to interpret a dream you had about someone or something at some point in your life.

But, have you ever dreamt about your doctor? Since it's not among the most common dreams, per Forbes, this one could leave you feeling even more intrigued than usual. Here's what it could possibly mean.

A dream about your doctor has both positive and negative connotations

The mistakes you never knew you were making at a doctor's office might be the highlight of your dream or maybe you just saw your doctor performing surgery on you. Either way, a dream involving your doctor is strange. And, as Female First reports, it could be a good or bad sign. We often associate doctors with authority and a dream involving them could very well be related to such an element in your waking life, according to Aunty Flo. The dream could also be indicative of the healer within you.

If the dream came to you while you were ill, it might mean that you're going to turn a corner with your ailments, per Dream Glossary. If you're in good health and dreamt about your doctor, this might be your subconscious telling you to avoid revealing someone's personal matters to others within a professional setting since doctors also represent confidentiality.

Our dreams often reveal something nuanced about our mental and/or physical health, and a dream related to your doctor could be signaling you to get checked out. If you're undergoing surgery in the dream, this could mean that you're going to avoid harm in the future by making an important life adjustment, per Female First. If the operation was on your head, it might be related to your perspective. Likewise, if you dreamed about a transplant, it could mean a change is in the cards.

The setting and emotions related to your dream matter too

Thinking about the emotions and setting pertaining to the dream helps enormously with interpreting it, as Dream Christ explains. Although a dream related to a doctor could be related to your health, that's not always the case. Was your doctor robed in white? Take a look at your life and see if your lack of confidence is making you apprehensive about finding a solution to a problem you've been having.

If you saw more than one doctor in your dream, this might be your brain's way of telling you to look ahead and forget the past. If the many doctors in your dream are in an argument, this could mean that some people you know will fall ill simultaneously, perhaps because of a particular contagion (via Dream Glossary). Are you conversing with a doctor in your dream? This could be related to certain wants in your life.

Are you trying to pursue something at the expense of your mental or physical health? You might be better off giving this up. If the doctor you see in your dream is familiar to you, it could be indicative that they are keeping some important information from you, according to Dream Christ. If the doctor in your dream was inside an ambulance, your brain could be telling you to exercise caution on the roads, per Dream Glossary.
