The Viral Facial Routine That Could Help Avoid Deep Smile Lines

Physical appearance changes as you age. The face is definitely the place you notice it first as you look at yourself in the mirror multiple times every day. Hence, it's no wonder every little line that appears is going to stand out to you like a deep crater line.

There are so many anti-aging techniques and products out there that it might be hard to know which one is the right one for you, especially considering how costly some of them can be. Besides plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments, high-quality beauty products in this category are often pretty expensive.

If you want to try something new without breaking the bank, including a facial massage in your skincare routine might be the perfect anti-aging hack you were looking for. The benefits of giving yourself a facial massage are nothing new, but can certainly be shocking if you're a beginner with a specific problem you'd like to tackle, like smile lines.

Smile without it leaving a trace

If you're a big smiler, there's a chance you've noticed some smile lines, depending on your age. Expert esthetician and specialist in facial reconstruction Kavita Mariwalla, MD tells Byrdie, "Smile lines occur due to the natural loss of volume that occurs in the face with age." It's the inevitable privilege of being alive.

However, if you're looking for a way to avoid developing deeper smile lines, this facial routine claims to do just that. Anastasia Goron, the face behind the All You Can Face method, demonstrates how to do it in a TikTok video she posted to her account, @allyoucanface.

Starting with a clean face, use a moisturizer or an oil of your own choice to prevent skin pulling. Start by doing circles around your lips with your tongue from the inside of your mouth. To avoid tongue fatigue, make sure to change directions when swirling. Then, work your tongue around the corners of your lips on both sides. The next step is to release tension from the area by massaging the diagonal from the middle of your lips to the middle of your cheeks. Massage each side using both hands. Lastly, relax your face muscles by gently tracing your cheeks and under-eye area upwards. Repeat each step for about one to two minutes.

How to make facial massages work for you

Since facial massages are mostly just you massaging your own face, you can do it whenever and wherever you feel like it. The simplest way would be to incorporate it into your existing skincare routine, whether that be in the morning or before you go to sleep.

The massage routines depend on your needs and wants, obviously, so try multiple ones out to find the method that works best for you. It should never hurt or irritate your skin. If you're a complete beginner, you could visit a facial massage center and book a session for yourself if that feels more comfortable. Some of the massage techniques, like a buccal massage, claim to help sculpt your face without needles. How amazing is that? But, remember it might take some time for the results to be visible.

As far as your smile lines go, cherish them before you banish them. See them as a trace of all the good times you had. Still, it's absolutely normal to want to fix or prevent something you consider a blemish. In that case, give this viral facial routine a try and smile away with no worries.
