What It Means If You Dream About Being Pregnant

Dreams can be weird. Sometimes they make sense, but often they don't, and it can be hard unraveling them. If you've been longing to have a baby, it might be obvious what a dream of being pregnant means. But what if you're not thinking about having kids? Could dreaming about being pregnant mean that your biological clock is ticking? Or could it be an early sign from your body that you're expecting? What does dreaming about being pregnant mean?

Like all dreams, a dream about being pregnant could have a meaning waiting to be interpreted, or it could mean nothing. Dream analyst Stephanie Gailing told Refinery 29 that, in many cases, dreaming of being pregnant can indicate that you have strong feelings about parenthood. "Being a mother, being a father, having a child — it's just a common archetype that runs through our world," she said.

Gailing added that dreaming of pregnancy can also be your brain's way of giving you a creative nudge. Dreaming of being pregnant might mean that you are actually metaphorically pregnant with an idea or project. The dream might indicate that it's time for you to share it with the world, or it could mean that you are approaching a due date.

Pregnancy dreams might also represent that you are about to experience big changes in your life. "Pregnancy in a dream can usually be connected to something in your waking life that is in the development phase," dream analyst Lauri Loewenberg told Bustle. Big life changes like a new job or relationship could trigger a pregnancy dream that represents "something that is currently growing and will eventually result in 'a new life' for you."

If you're already pregnant, pregnancy dreams aren't just normal, but common. According to Psychology Today, approximately one third of pregnancy dreams are about pregnancy, childbirth, and that new bundle of joy.
