Everything We Know About Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Surprise Wedding

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shocked fans across the world in August 2019 when he announced that he'd wed his longtime girlfriend, singer Lauren Hashian, in a secret Hawaiian ceremony. The announcement came just one day after the surprise nuptials, which took place on Aug. 18, 2019. Johnson — best known for his professional wrestling career, as well as his roles in The Fast and the Furious franchise, The Scorpion King, Moana, The Tooth Fairy, and The Game Plan — took to his personal Instagram account to announce the couple's big news.

"We do," the former professional wrester captioned two photos of the newly wedded couple. Along with their wedding date, Johnson added the Hawaiian word, "Pōmaikaʻi," noting that it translates to "blessed."

While Johnson and Hashian have been dating for quite some time, it's safe to say that no one was expecting the two lovebirds to tie the knot anytime soon. However, it's certainly nice to see one of our favorite Hollywood couples taking their relationship to the next level. Here's everything we know about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's surprise wedding to Lauren Hashian.

Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Lauren Hashian's wedding was supposed to happen sooner

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Lauren Hashian might have only tied the knot in August 2019, but these two have been an item for much longer than most Hollywood relationships seem to last. Johnson and Hashian met in 2006, while the former professional wrestler was filming the adorable family comedy flick The Game Plan. According to People, the two officially started dating just a year later.

In 2018, over ten years after Johnson and Hashian's romance had begun, the Moana star revealed to Entertainment Tonight the reason he and Hashian had not yet gotten married. "We were going to get married in the spring and we got pregnant," Johnson told ET, referencing Hashian's pregnancy with the couple's second child together, Tiana. He continued, "Lauren felt like ... well, you know, mama [doesn't want] to take pictures being pregnant in a wedding dress, so we're just going to wait. [We're] not quite sure when, but I know it's going to happen."

Dwayne The Rock Johnson has been calling Lauren Hashian his wife for a while

Perhaps you're reading this and thinking to yourself, "Huh, I thought Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Lauren Hashian were already married." If that sounds like you, don't worry — it would make sense for fans to assume that Johnson and Hashian were husband and wife long before Aug. 18, 2019. After all, as The Rock himself has admitted, he's been referring to Hashian as his wife for quite some time.

In a July 2018 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Johnson revealed that calling his longtime girlfriend his "wife" had led some fans to believe the two had gotten married in a secret wedding ceremony. Of course, as we now know, that secret ceremony would take place only a year later — but in 2018, Johnson seemed to be in no real rush to wed.

"I just refer to her as my wife all the time," the former wrestling pro told ET. He continued, "So a lot of people are like, 'Oh, did you get married?' I'm like, 'No. Easy. Don't rush big daddy.'"

Lauren Hashian's wedding dress had quite the price tag

If Say Yes to the Dress has taught us anything, it's that, collectively, society is super obsessed with finding the perfect wedding dress. Of course, when a Hollywood couple ties the knot, the details of said wedding dress become even more of a hot topic. While the wedding pictures Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson posted to Instagram seem to hint toward an outdoor ceremony, we think Lauren Hashian's wedding dress was elegant enough for a Windsor Castle wedding.

As seen in the dreamy photos from Johnson and Hashian's big day, the bride wore a form-fitting, mermaid style wedding gown with a plunging V-shaped neckline, a low, open back, and intricate Chantilly lace detailing. According to People, Hashian's gown was designed by couture bridal designer Mira Zwillinger — and only two days after the wedding, it was still available for sale at Moda Operandi. However, if you're looking to make Hashian's wedding gown your own, you should be prepared to part with quite a chunk of change — $12,540 worth of change, to be exact.

Per People, Hashian and Johnson exchanged wedding rings designed by Anita Ko.

Dwayne The Rock Johnson looked dapper for his wedding to Lauren Hashian

While Say Yes to the Dress has taught us everything we need to know about shopping for a wedding gown — like how a sweetheart neckline looks flattering on just about anyone, how a veil can make (or break) a dress, or how your future mother-in-law will almost certainly hate every gown you try on — there's no such show for the fellas. However, when you're Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, it's pretty much universally understood that you don't need a lot of help when it comes to dressing to the nines.

Unsurprisingly, the former professional wrestler didn't disappoint in the fashion department on his wedding day. As seen in the wedding photos Johnson posted to Instagram, the Tooth Fairy actor looked as dapper as ever in a white button down shirt and a pair of off-white trousers. According to People, Johnson's shirt and trousers came courtesy of Ralph Lauren's Purple Label collection. Of course, in true Hawaiian fashion, Johnson also sported traditional Hawaiian leis across his shoulders.

Dwayne The Rock Johnson's wedding to Lauren Hashian marks his second marriage

Despite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Lauren Hashian's lengthy relationship, longtime fans of the former professional wrestler likely know that his secret wedding to Hashian marks the start of his second marriage.

According to a September 2017 Ad Age feature, Johnson met his first wife, Dany Garcia, while they were "kids" studying at the University of Miami. As noted by Entertainment Tonight, the two married in 1997, welcomed daughter Simone together, and later split "amicably" in 2007. However, despite their divorce, Johnson and Garcia maintain a close relationship. The two are business partners, running their production company, Seven Bucks Productions, together — along with Seven Bucks Digital Studios and the advertising agency Seven Bucks Creative. In addition to the production company, which Johnson and Garcia founded in 2012, Garcia also serves as her ex-husband's manager.

In a January 2019 interview with Good Morning America, Garcia revealed the secret to having both a successful friendship and flourishing business relationship with her ex-spouse. According to Garcia, she credits "friendship and the expansion of wanting what's best for everyone" for giving her relationship with Johnson its unique happy ending.

Dwayne The Rock Johnson's ex-brother-in-law played a big part on his wedding day

Dany Garcia isn't the only person from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's past with whom he shares a seemingly unbreakable bond. Garcia's brother (and Johnson's ex-brother-in-law), Hiram Garcia, has also remained close to the Fate of the Furious star, even serving as Head of Productions at Seven Bucks Productions, the production company founded in 2012 by Johnson and his ex-wife.

According to San Andreas producer Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia is an expert in communicating effectively with Johnson — and even though The Rock is technically Garcia's boss, the actor covets Garcia's input. "They've known each other for so long, so there is a real shorthand — and an incredible trust — between them," Flynn revealed to Variety. He continued, "Dwayne knows that Hiram is always gonna tell him the truth ... and he respects and appreciates that."

Considering that the wedding photos Johnson posted to his Instagram account have Hiram Garcia tagged as the photographer, it's safe to say these ex-brothers-in-law are just as brotherly as ever.

The couple's wedding location holds a special place in Dwayne The Rock Johnson's heart

As revealed in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's August 2019 Instagram post, he and Lauren Hashian were wed in a secret ceremony in the state of Hawaii. As a quick geographical refresher, Hawaii is an archipelago made up of eight major islands. Since Johnson didn't geotag his Insta-worthy wedding announcement, the exact island on which he and Hashian wed is not yet known. However, as fans of Johnson know, Hawaii holds a special place in the actor's heart.

According to a 2019 HuffPost article, Johnson, who is part Samoan, briefly attended an Oahu-based school during his high school years. While not a native Hawaiian, Johnson did return in July 2019 to stand alongside Hawaiians protesting a billion-dollar telescope project set for the peak of Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii.

Speaking to the press during the peaceful protest, Johnson revealed, "What I realized today ... it's bigger than the telescope." The actor continued, "It's our people, Polynesian people, who are willing to die here to protect this land ... this very sacred land that they believe in so powerfully."

Celebrity friends were quick to congratulate Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Lauren Hashian

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Lauren Hashian's wedding was definitely a pleasant surprise for fans of the famous couple — but it's safe to say that their celebrity pals were just as shocked as us non-famous folk. When the Fighting with My Family star posted two photos from his secret August 2019 Hawaiian wedding to Hashian on Instagram, some of his famous friends were quick to comment with words of love and support for the newly wedded couple.

Singer Nicole Scherzinger commented, "Maika'i," the Hawaiian word for "excellent," continuing, "So awesome!! Was there the same time!!! Congratulations and continued blessings! Aloha nui."

In addition to a bevy of other celebs, Mindy Kaling, Kate Hudson, Nick Jonas, Gal Gadot, Halle Berry, and Jack Whitehall all commented their congratulations for the couple. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who starred alongside Johnson in the 2018 action-adventure film Rampage, left a particularly heartfelt note. The Walking Dead star commented, "Big huge congratulations and love to you two kids ... AND to your kids!! Much love brother."

Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Lauren Hashian have formed a unique, modern family

Since the announcement that ABC's Modern Family would end after its eleventh season, consider this our official petition to have a show about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Lauren Hashian's own unique, super adorable modern family to take the hit series' place.

Though Dany Garcia, Johnson's ex-wife, wasn't tagged in the wedding photos uploaded to Instagram by the actor, it's likely she was in attendance. After all, her brother, Hiram Garcia, is tagged as Johnson and Hashian's wedding photographer — and the former professional wrestler has been open and honest about his close relationship with his former spouse.

In a 2012 interview with People, Johnson revealed that he and Hashian are so close with Garcia that they often spend Thanksgiving together as a family. As Johnson described to the publication, his friendship with Garcia and his romance with Hashian are two of his greatest blessings. "I was so fortunate to have fallen in love once," Johnson said of his first marriage. He continued, "To fall in love again? That's a hard thing to do twice in the position I'm in. I'm one lucky son of a b***h."
