The Real Meaning Of Cameron Diaz's New Baby's Name
Cameron Diaz recently announced the birth of her first child with her husband, Benji Madden. The couple had kept the big news a secret from the public, with most people being unaware of the impending bundle of joy until she posted a birth announcement on Instagram on January 3.
"Happy New Year from the Maddens!" wrote Diaz in an Instagram post. "We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family."
Diaz revealed that they would be keeping their daughter out of the public eye as much as possible. "While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one's privacy," she wrote. "So we won't be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really really cute! Some would even say RAD."
Diaz concluded the announcement with a seasonal greeting, writing, "From our family to all of yours, we're sending our love and best wishes for a Happy New Year and Happy New Decade."
What does the name Raddix mean?
Fans couldn't help but notice the unusual moniker Diaz and Madden gave to the new addition to their family. Does the name Raddix have any special meaning?
Diaz and Madden haven't commented on the uncommon name they gave to their baby. According to Vice, the word "raddix" doesn't appear in the dictionary, although it is the name of a Texas-based EDM singer, a South African insurance company, and a character in the book Moonkind: Survivors of Ebola. It seems fairly unlikely that Raddix got her name from any of these sources, although anything is possible.
Radix with a singular "d" is derived from the Latin word for "root." In math, it refers to "a number taken as the base of a system of numbers, logarithms, or the like," (via Dictionary.com), while in anatomy and botany it can means "a root; radicle." When it comes to family, roots are important, and perhaps this plays into the meaning of their new daughter's moniker.
Given the potential meanings of Raddix, however, it seems most likely that Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden simply wanted to pick something hip and catchy, possibly playing up the double letters in each name. It may not have a meaning that we know of, but Raddix Madden certainly has a nice ring to it!
