Braided Hairstyles You'll Be Asking For In Spring 2020

It's officially spring 2020, and the perfect time to try some fun new trends that have emerged. Fortunately, braids never really seem to go out of style because they're the perfect way to push hair out of your face while still looking chic, so any plait you choose will likely be a winner. According to The Trend Spotter, this style can also promote hair growth because it lessens the need for brushing and for using hot tools, which can both lead to breakage — it's a win-win.

Celebs have been rocking this look on the red carpet for years, and from Margot Robbie to Olivia Munn, you've probably noticed some of these trends popping up on your social media feeds. We've rounded up some of the hottest new looks in braid styles that have been spotted in Tinseltown and at New York Fashion Week. Whether you want a more refined or funky look, we have you covered.

Go for pigtail plaits in spring 2020

This classic schoolgirl look is back with a twist. These romantic loose braids were seen on the Dior runway during its sustainability themed spring/summer 2020 show. Tina Outen, a stylist for L'Oreal Professional, told Harper's Bazaar these braids are "super messy and strong, yet unapologetically feminine." To get this look hairstylist Guido Palau explained to Vogue that using product is key, as it helps add control and helps smooth the hair. Palau also recommends using "a light hairspray, such as Redken Fashion Work 12 sprayed on to your hands while braiding also helps."

Braided tendrils are a more subtle look

If two large braids isn't your style, you can also ease yourself into this trend with two skinny braids that hide in the rest of your hair. Margot Robbie has been spotted on red carpets rocking this romantic hair trend. According to Cosmopolitan, you'll need to use plenty of texturizing spray at the roots to create this effortlessly stunning look. Cosmo recommends that you add "some beach-y waves, then braid two skinny sections of hair, stopping a few inches before the ends."

Accessorized braids will pop in spring 2020

During New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2020, accessories were everywhere. At the Simone Rocha show, models walked the runway with braids woven with raffia, pearls, and even feathers. Likewise, at the Alice + Olivia show, models had sprigs of lavender stuck throughout their boho braids creating a whimsical fairy-tale feel. To try the trend yourself, Cosmopolitan suggests that you "braid the sides of your hairline back in a regular three-strand braid, pinning in place in the center of your head. Then thread pieces of fake lavender through your braid, bobby-pinning the ends in place."

Whether you want a more classic look or a unique braided style, there's a 2020 spring trend for everyone.
